Rehearsals
Rehearsals are held on Wednesday evenings from 7:30pm to 9.30pm in Jubilee Hall, Chagford TQ13 8DP. We start in early September. Chagford Singers rehearsals are relaxed, and (we like to think) good fun! See calendar for details.
Performances
The choir performs 2 concerts each year; at Christmas, and in the spring. Our Historical Repertoire gives a flavour of previous performances.
The Christmas Concert is usually held in St Michael’s Church, Chagford; the June Concert in the Jubilee Hall. We are also regularly invited to sing Christmas carols at Bovey Castle Hotel.
Subscriptions
Choir members pay a subscription of £130 per year, this includes hire of scores. Where a new member joins part way through a year, a reduced sub. will be applicable.
Accompanist - opportunity
We are looking for a pianist with appropriate experience in playing for standard choral society repertoire. In the past five years, work has included: Beethoven’s Mass in C, Handel’s Zadok the Priest, Wood’s Fantasia on British Sea Songs, Haydn’s Missa Sancti Nicolai, Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on Christmas Carols, Charpentier’s Messe de Minuit pour Noël, Puccini’s Messa di Gloria, Schubert’s Mass in G Major and Vivaldi’s Gloria.
The Chagford Singers is a non-audition community choir in Chagford on Dartmoor. We meet on Wednesday evenings during term time for rehearsing and developing choral skills and prepare for two concerts and a workshop annually, sometimes in collaboration with other musical groups. Our aim is to make singing an enjoyable experience for all and to bring a wide repertoire to our audiences in a rural location.
Fees are £40 a session and travel expenses, as well as additional fees for concerts and other events.
